The Collosus Project was intended to be the salvation of the Promethian race and indeed working on it brought them together like never before, a vast transgalactic gate capable of transporting not only the entire Promethian race to a new galaxy it would also allow them to bring their most precious possession with them the gigantic data archive that was once their homeworld, if successful this would allow them access to almost infinite knowledge, they would never be without purpose again, safe from the ravages of social disorder.

The first stage was the Collosus portal, constructed in a binary star system close to the Promethian home system it used the twin suns as it's power source, this incredible portal large enough to transport an entire planet took nearly a century to construct, the next stage after a series of rigorous tests would be to attempt to open a wormhole to a neighbouring galaxy before sending through an anchor probe to stabilise the rift , finally a fleet of remote contruction drones would be sent through to build the exit portal  to allow safe passage through to their new home, this was pretty much the same as the method used to build regular portals but on a far larger scale .

However upon the very first test of the Collosus portal a hideous accident was to occur that would change everything forever.

A low power test opening a temporary rift to an area just outside the galactic rim in an area of empty space was planned in order to test essential systems and basic functionality, the test was due to last only a few minutes. Everything was proceding as expected the rift was opened everything appeared to have worked perfectly, then the first readings began to come in, something was wrong, very badly wrong, there was something blocking the rift somehow something had been trapped in the vortex , but how ? there should have been nothing there in the space between dimensions it should have been like opening a door from one place to another but something was blocking the doorway, something big. The rift immediately began to destabilise the promethians desperately tried to disengage the portal as titanic forces threatened to tear a hole in the very fabric of space itself, eventually the rift was closed and the blockage ejected .

Crippled, hideously damaged and seething with maelevolence Nemesis had arrived...........

I don't think I have a choice now. My mind wont cope with the possibility that I don't make an FS2 mod. Smiley

NEMESIS :

Nemesis the Abomination almost defies description a bizzare mixture of the organic and inorganic, was it alive ? was it it a machine ? it was impossible to tell maybe the best description of it is anti-life, just as there is matter and anti-matter maybe there is life and anti-life. It was the size of a large moon, emerging from the Promethian portal mutilated and charred yet still infinetly dangerous it sent forth harvesters to claim raw materials in order to heal itself.

The First Swarm :

The harvesters sent by Nemesis stripped entire worlds of life leaving behind nothing but barren rocks they collected all organic material to feed and repair their creator, they were living machines able to adapt to any conditions in order to fulfil their purpose. The Promethians looked on in abject horror at the apocalypse they'd unleashed upon the galaxy, many of their star cities were lost to the harvesters, despite their incredible technology they had no weapons and no experience of war . The remaining Promethians rushed to defend their greatest possesion - their home planet, they struggled desperately to find something that would turn back this tide of destruction, Nemesis was repairing fast as it's harvesters laid waste to thousands of primitive worlds.

With nothing to fight back with the Promethians realised their only hope was to send Nemesis back through the portal before it could once again become mobile, in a daring raid a small band of Promethians were able to reactivate the portal , realising what they were doing Nemesis turned the full force of it's harvesters against the Promethians, as the portal was reactivated Nemesis desperately attempted to collapse the energy field the portal generated but it was too late, as Nemesis was sucked back into the vortex there was a massive power surge and the portal closed forever Nemesis was gone.

The harvesters closed in on the remaining Promethians, the Promethians were desperate and reletively defenceless they tried everything, by now they had developed a few crude weapons but they were weak and ineffective, eventually they resorted to crashing their remaining star cities into the clouds of black pods that transfered the harvesters through space before detonating the engines, this again was crude but it was effective, at least for a while.

During the dying days of the war the Promethians made a discovery - a metal based toxin with sentient properties that could adapt faster than the harvesters , finally they had an effective weapon at their disposal but it was too little too late. There were very few Promethians left by this time and the harvesters had almost engulfed their entire home system as they closed in on the Promethian homeworld, the Promethians could not win even with this new weapon but they fought hard and many harvesters were destroyed . The Promethians realised that once they were destroyed the harvesters would revert to their original programming and would eventually consume the entire galaxy, feeling a terrible guilt they tried to atone for terror they had unleashed. During their final days they created a fleet of data probes, each probe contained a huge amount of information, enough for any race that found it to advance to the level where they could synthesise the sentient toxin that would destroy the harvesters, they sent these probes to every surviving life bearing world in their database.

In a final act of defiance the Promethians detonated their own sun rather than fall to the harvesters, the resulting cataclysm vapourised their entire star system along with the vast majority of the harvesters, a few however survived , damaged and directionless they drifted through space for endless millenia in a dormant state until eventually they made planetfall on a primitive lifebearing world and the second Swarm was born.

During this time life had flourished throughout the galaxy, many sentient species had discovered the Promethian probes and the Biometal wars were well and truely underway..............

Ooooh!  Uncle Lizard's Story Time!

Great story.  I like how the Prometheans defied Nemesis to the very last.  Excellent work.

Absoloutley Brilliant!!!

If you are trying to entice me into making FS2, it is definitely working!!

Imagine a bio-toxin spray from sabre tanks and bombers dropping toxin bombs.

the final irony is that the Promethian toxin is Biometal - it was always intended to be a weapon not a building material , this may go some way to explaining why it is so difficult to control.
